Itinerary, Walking & Bus Rides

We will of course be on our feet daily touring breweries and wineries, and we’ll be doing a fair amount of walking in the cities every day. We’ll also (optionally) climb at least 1 tall church and poke around a castle and other sites.

On 3 of the tour days we’ll ride by private coach, and most of those drives will be more than an hour in length, though hopefully less than ninety minutes. The bus may or may not have a toilet; if not, toilet stops will be made as needed. If you are, or are traveling with, a person with a disability, please discuss with us in advance. On the non-bus tour days we’ll get around by walking, subway and regional train (short rides).

(Itinerary subject to change)

Food & Drink

Breakfast is included in all hotels and we strongly encourage you to take advantage of it. Lunch and / or dinner will be provided on tour days as specified; these are generally casual restaurant / elevated pub meals, though we may have 1 or 2 more formal occasions. There will be plenty of time and easy access to restaurants for meals not included in the tour, and we offer info on options in each city. We also strongly encourage you to pack small snacks for bus days, and to bring a refillable water bottle. All restaurant meals included in the tour will offer vegetarian options, but vegan selections cannot be guaranteed.

Complimentary set amounts (specified in advance each day) of beer, wine, herbal liqueurs or soft drinks are offered with most included meals, but other liquors and cocktails will be at guest’s own expense. Varying amounts of beer / wine / spirits are included on brewery / distillery / winery tours, depending on venue. In general: please note that we are not an all-you-can-drink tour, and we encourage / expect moderation in alcohol consumption during tour hours!

Hotels & Locations

In both cities we opt for mid-priced, clean and friendly 3-Star hotels. Both are currently TBD but guests will be very near bars and restaurants, and we provide handy printed / digital guides for extra-curricular eating & drinking in both cities.

Weather & What to Bring

October is normally temperate / autumnal in Germany but we suggest checking the forecast in advance just before travel. A rain jacket may be essential. The most important item will be comfortable walking shoes, as we’ll be on our feet a lot and will be visiting a handful of historical sites in addition to breweries / distilleries / wineries / vineyards.

Temperatures may vary but expect to need some cool / cold weather gear, particularly in the evenings. Dress will be relatively casual during the day, but we expect that on many evenings out in restaurants slightly dressier ensembles may feel more appropriate than baseball caps/brewery t-shirts.
